The farmer takes the goat to the East bank. He returns alone to the West bank, picks up the wolf and takes it to the East bank. He picks up the goat and takes it back to the West bank where he picks up the cabbage and takes it to the East bank. He then rows back alone to the West bank, picks up the goat and takes it back to the East bank. Voila - the farmer, his goat, wolf and cabbage have all made it across safely to the East bank from the West bank.
